SF6 gas insulated HV AC test systems are widely used for factory testing of GIS and their metal-clad components, especially instrument transformers, and for on-site testing as well.
They are metal-clad encapsulated, can be directly flanged to test object, so test system and test object are fully encapsulated. This allows a space saving test setup without safety clearances between test system or test object and walls or other objects.
The test system and test object become a closed system with a low PD background noise level when directly flanged. This feature makes the model ideally suited for sensitive PD measurements.
In factory, these systems allow to test sub-assemblies and components directly in the manufacturing line, thus avoiding transportation to a central test facility, and extra handling.
Furthermore they can also be used for AC voltage test of other HV apparatus when equipped with output bushing.
Compared to conventional oil insulated AC test systems, they are lighter and smaller, only about 1/6 height and 1/7 weight, also the merits of encapsulation remain effective during tests which is essential for PD testing.
